Tokyo street is one of the best places you can take photo of a random gig, oddball, or anyone who likes to express who they really are. The chances of encountering those people are...well depending on where you are. The probability is higher in usual areas like Shibuya, Harajuku, Shinjuku, Ikebukuro where students (or some randomly talented folks) get a spot to perform their evening gig. I from time time run into the interesting ones while having my camera at its services (for most of the times, I don't). Some of them regularly gather at a certain spot/ or a scheduled event e.g. If I recall correctly, these people below are part of street performers in Koenji something something festival where they had tons of small gigs spread around the neighborhood. The guy in the multi-color flowery pants is my all-time fav.
Elvis gang here normally get together in Yoyogi park on weekend shaking with some funky music.I doubt if they will survive this summer with their leather jacket on..Check them out!
GAP Store in Harajuku was having this event some time ago while I passed by, I seriously didn't have any intention to capture these girls' photo at all. However, due to their request, I couldn't really refuse to snap a shoot ;P
Think I saw this dude in Shinjuku, somewhere from JR South Exit going towards East Exit. Pretty awesome music indeed, some kind of electro- house- robot beats.
Another rock band in Shinjuku (notice the glow resulted from Canon 50/0.95!)
Shibuya is another location for photographing some cool street band like this guy.
