"Snowfall in Tokyo is a rare and beautiful sight, and it's even more extraordinary when it falls while cherry blossoms are in bloom—creating a truly magical scene! As a photographer, capturing this unique combination of snow and cherry blossoms is a dream come true.
Typically, Tokyo's cherry blossom season takes place in late March and early April, during the warmer months, making snowfall almost impossible. Additionally, snowfall in Tokyo is already uncommon, with only a few snowfalls each winter, and they rarely last long.
When snow and cherry blossoms appear together, it’s a breathtaking fusion of winter and spring, offering a stunning contrast between the soft pink petals of the cherry blossoms and the delicate white of the snow.
I was lucky (or maybe not so lucky) to have a client's surprise proposal photoshoot that day, and of course, right at the height of a ‘surprise’ snowstorm. Our grand plan was to casually stroll through the garden, soaking in the beauty of the Japanese landscape while scouting the perfect spot for him to pull out the ring and pop the big question. Instead, we got a full-blown winter wonderland adventure—everyone covered in snow and freezing their faces off. But the couple? They embraced the chaos with joy, making the most of the rare (and chilly) spectacle. We eventually found the perfect spot, where he nailed his once-in-a-lifetime proposal, and of course, she said yes!
